SAP HANA

SAP's High-Performance Analytics Appliance or HANA for short, is changing the way businesses think. To say this technology offers lightning-fast data analysis, is stating it mildly when you consider that HANA delivers analysis that are 3600 times faster than traditional disk-based databases.

SAP HANA is a flexible, multipurpose, data-source-agnostic in-memory appliance. An appliance is a combination of hardware and software product that is designed specifically for analytical processing. An appliance allows the purchaser to deploy a high-performance data warehouse right out of the box.

SAP HANA integrates with SAP HANA database which is an in-memory database that combines row-based, column-based and object based database technology. As a result SAP HANA lets customers run reports on "live" data, at the same time that the transactional systems are running. This helps in real time analytics since the users do not have to wait for reports from a day-old data. This also helps to avoid the warehouse hardware and the ETL required getting the data into the warehouse. The entire IT infrastructure can collapse down to operational systems.
    • In-memory computing – SAP HANA provides immediate answers to any questions in real time. This is because SAP HANA uses in-memory computing for instant insights into business.
    • Real time access to data – SAP HANA allows the business users to get all the right information, without the delay of typical enterprise data warehouses. This is a move to a foundation that can truly fulfill the promise of real-time business.
    • Massive data volumes – SAP HANA enables organizations to analyze business operations based on large volumes of detailed information in real time.
    • Accelerated BI Scenarios from any data source - SAP HANA allows accelerated business intelligence scenarios from any data source; better operational planning, simulation, and forecasting; fast analysis and better decision making using accelerated SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) transactional data; and better storage, search, and impromptu analysis using very large data volumes.
    • Columnar storage – HANA uses a combination of row and columnar store which results in flexible views of analytic information in seconds.
    • Compression – HANA stores information in a compressed format. A typical uncompressed Oracle or SQL server database when put into HANA will be 10x times smaller than before since HANA stores the information in a compressed format.
